Border management today faces growing challenges: increasing mobility flows, complex operational environments, and rising expectations regarding data protection and fundamental rights. ORION is a European collaborative project launched to explore how innovative and responsible technologies can support border authorities while remaining fully aligned with European values.
Started in October, ORION brings together border authorities, research organisations, technology providers and policy‑oriented partners. The project adopts a multidisciplinary approach, combining operational insight, technical expertise and strong ethical and legal governance.

ORION’s ambition is to design and validate an interoperable and trustworthy border management platform that responds to real operational needs. Rather than focusing on technology alone, the project places emphasis on:
